About This Attraction

Standing majestically at 368 meters tall, the Berlin TV Tower (Fernsehturm) is Germany’s tallest structure and one of Berlin’s most iconic landmarks. Built between 1965 and 1969 by the German Democratic Republic, this architectural marvel was originally designed to showcase the technological prowess of the socialist system while serving as a functional broadcasting facility.

The tower’s distinctive design features a reinforced concrete shaft topped with a striking stainless steel sphere that was inspired by Soviet Sputnik satellites. Located next to Alexanderplatz in Berlin’s Mitte district, the TV Tower dominates the city’s skyline and remains visible from virtually every corner of Berlin.

Visitors can take one of two high-speed elevators that transport them to the observation deck in just 40 seconds. The panoramic viewing platform, situated 203 meters above ground, offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Berlin that extend up to 80 kilometers on clear days. One floor above, the revolving restaurant provides a unique dining experience, completing a full rotation every 30 minutes.

The tower has become a symbol of reunified Berlin, attracting over one million visitors annually from around 90 countries. Its universal and timeless design has made it an instantly recognizable symbol of both Berlin and Germany, frequently appearing in films and media as an establishing shot of the German capital.
